I hope you are keeping safe and well.
Just a few announcements for the folk that follow our Club internet site and also our Club members that do not ‘do’ Facebook.
CLUB NETS AND COFFEE CHAT SESSIONS FROM 6th APRIL
Since the ‘not going out’ shutdown, we have organised some Club nets to keep our members in touch. These have been very successful, and thank you for those that have joined, but we thought we would adapt the programme slightly to help those that are not on VHF/UHF and so from 1W April the programme will be:
Sunday at 19.30 on GB3MK – Net Controller, Stu M0MMZ
Monday – reserved for Club events via Zoom
Thursday at 1930 on HF 28.400 net
MKARS Friday Coffee Chat via Zoom. Check with Facebook Group Announcements for the ‘click on’ link for the specific week to connect directly into the chat
KEEPING CLOSE TO THE FACEBOOK GROUP
The Facebook Group is the MKARS Club heartbeat. We are also trying to keep the Facebook Group very active, keeping you up to date with what members are doing and helping to support our radio community. We now have nearly 120 in our Group, and those Club members that have not joined we would urge you to do so. See https://www.facebook.com/groups/MiltonKeynesARS .
For those that don’t do FB, we’ll try and replicate things here, but if you want help setting up an anonymous account with FB just for MKARS use we can help with that.
SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS – CW AND CONTEST GROUPS
We are also continuing our special interest groups for the Club. The contesters get together is still on the last Thursday of the month, open to all club members, and it will now meeting via Zoom. Tim G6GEI will be the host.
The CW meetings will restart shortly using ‘on air’ (improvers) run by John G3WKL and Zoom (learners) run by Will G1YYU. More on this shortly.
CLUB MEETINGS VIA ZOOM – we’ve made a start
We successfully ran the first MKARS Club meeting via a video conferencing facility using Zoom on the 6th April. We had about 16 members join and discussed EME. We are going to try and run two full Club Monday evening meetings via Zoom every month until we can start meeting properly again. The next Zoom Club meeting is scheduled for Monday 27th April where we are due to have a talk about working through polar orbit satellites.
Please keep safe,
MKARS Chair 2019/20
