Meshtastic and Meshcore are both designed for off-grid communication using LoRa based mesh networks.
Meshtastic launched first (2019) with a flooding protocol where every node re-broadcasts what it receives.
Meshcore was introduced in 2025 and uses static path optimisation, bigger hop limits and repeaters for efficient routing.
Both are popular and don’t require an Amateur license to operate, but are increasingly popular amongst the Amateur Radio community.
This night is a review of both, and a pointer in the right direction for anyone wanting to get started with it.
